Agriculture in numbers

The role of farming is predominant in the cantons of Lacaune and Murat-sur-Vèbre.

One can count 231 farming concerns of which:

  • 110 are located in the canton of Lacaune
  • 121 are located inthe canton of Murat-sur-Vèbre

The total area of useful agricultural land is 14,622 hectares (146,000,000 square metres).
Certain farmers have organized and formed CUMA (Cooperatives for the Utilization of Agricultural Materials) in order to acquire shared farming implements and machines, to increase individual productivity and to improve working conditions.

The natural context of our region (altitude and climate of medium-altitude mountains) imposes the vocation of breeding.

Temporary prairies represent 7,169 hectares (71,690,000 square metres)
Natural prairies represent 5,265 hectares (52,650,000 square metres)
